Not long after I checked out 596 Acres, I followed Andrew Coté, master beekeeper, around for about 36 hours. Edible Manhattan ran the photos alongside an excerpt from Robin Shulman’s new book, Eat the City. It’s a really good read, so pick up your copy while they’re still around the greenmarkets, and I would definitely recommend the book for any foodies who haven’t already checked it out.
I am used to having only a few minutes with my subjects, especially when shooting in NYC – so I was elated that I got to shadow Andrew for such an extended period of time. I emerged with a couple of bee stings (hey, par for the course), 5 rolls of film, and a whole new perspective on what one person is capable of. When you see Andrew in the Union Square Greenmarket, give him a shout out! There’s a lot of hard work, long hours, and passion behind those little jars of honey.
